Kicking K

K...Katy...K...Kiting...K...Knowledge

There are not many things that I can relate to that begin with K. So I am just going to whip up what I know of and see how it flows!

Back in the days of school, I got involved in powerkiting, thanks to some lovely young lads who would tie me on to a 6 metre kite and watch me fly away. It used to be something that always came up in conversation, we would head out to Brighton and watch the kitesurfing contests, there were times of ridiculousness when ideas popped up, like getting an oil tray or a skim board and go snowkiting across the golf course! There were times we sent the 6 metre up in gail force winds and watched others ploughing through the boggy rugby fields. To this day, I live with the knowledge and the skill it takes to powerkite. When I came to New Zealand, I remember travelling down to Tauranga with my family and watching the kitesurfers, one of which crashed his kite on the sand and looked lost with no one around to help. At this point I plucked up the courage to walk over to the person, who turned out to be a fine looking young kiwi boy, and I asked if he needed help. With suprise he realised I had the know-how to launch his 15 metre kite! I walked away feeling very proud of myself! So I write this blog of gratitude to the knowledge and skills I picked up from my kiting days with Mike and friends. I continue to powerkite with my wee 3 metre beast, and there are days I miss taking those roadtrips out to the beach specifically to find wind!

The picture was taken out at Pakiri Beach, about half hour from my parents place. It's such an awesome beach with beautiful views and almost always on shore wind! :) Plus it's soft on your bum when you get dragged!

Journée

“The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.”- Don Williams, Jr.

As a few of my past blogs have suggested, I have a passion to think that we all have a purpose and that nothing is a coincidence. People come into our life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. This blog is about the Journey.

Everyone has an alternative journey through life. These journey's are based on choices. The world is our oyster, opportunities are endless, based on our choices of what to pursue and when.

Our journey is endless, forever working towards something. However, this something transforms down the paths we take, through corners we make, every speed bump we hit... Once you get a taste of something you like, you want more, the journey alters and you glide through with countless memories and experiences, all the wiser for stepping out and exploring the path you chose.

Sometimes, we lose focus of where our journey is taking us. Wondering what we are doing with our lives, waiting for the big break through. But in the end, why worry about where it's going when you could sit back and enjoy the ride it is taking you on.

Having gradutated from university last year and found myself an occupation to pursue as a beginning teacher, I am becoming familiar with the journeys that my passion and profession could take me on. There are many paths to choose and opportunities out there...waiting for me. I have been setting everything down to timings in life, planning months and years ahead, where I want to be and when and somewhat believing I have hindsight. Anything could happen! For now, I am going to try and enjoy the ride, even if I have to contend with a lack of sleep and a fuzzy head every weekend! I am just going to appreciate what I am learning at this stage in my journey.

I found the letter J hard to think about, impossible to find a word to relate too! I did think about the Bob Marley song Jamming... But couldn't think of enough to write about it! This blog ties in with many of my others, just giving my perspective on life I guess! :)

The Power of Imagination

The imagination allows children to make ideas and perceptions of their own; this then creates their personality. Dr Montessori believed it was very important to give children the freedom to imagine and create ideas, She explained the process similar to that of a flower, by cultivating the flower of humanity we should expect richer and more beautiful forms.

As an adult, our imagination is like a caged animal, feasting upon opportunities for freedom and running wild. Once we allow it to wander from its captivity, it is mighty difficult to tame.

The imagination is key to creativity. Having once wrote an assignment on creativity based on Montessori Philosophy, I feel it would be quite easy to look over what I have written previously. However that would not be creative or original!

Experiences and inspiration is what the imagination relies on, like children taunting and encouraging each other to go further, to prove himself. Nothing man made on this planet...and beyond that even... has been created without the power of the imagination.

It allows us to be creative at work, play and in generally in life. If i did not have the inspiration from friends and experiences of prior travels, I would not imagine where I want to go in my life time.

I believe problems arrise when your mind over rides the imagination. Bringing it swiftly back down to earth. Telling us " there is no point imaginating that because I cannot do this...", forever picking out the negatives and never running free with the positives.

Don't let you mind cage your imagination...set it free once and a while...see where it may take you!

Healing

Engrossed in the things happening around us, I believe we can forget to stop and absorb our feelings. Lately, possibly the time of year for some cases, many of my friends and myself have been through situations which need a little time to heal.

Healing sounds a little spiritual sometimes, I guess in my own opinion it is, I see it as time to cover the wounds and find that strong person inside again, ready to face another day. I believe, whatever the age or sex, a human being needs to allow time to sit and ponder their thoughts and feelings.

In all honestly, my healing often consists of covering the wound of loneliness. However many great friends I have! All too often afraid of being alone, for three weeks, months or even years. Whether the closest people are on holiday, half way round the world or simply around the road but far too busy, there will always be an element of loneliness. Deep down I know I am not alone. I guess our mind runs away with our heart sometimes.

The point is, healing is needed to keep us emotionally and spiritually sane and ready for what the world is to throw at us. It consists of time.

Time to agree to your girlfirends to meet them at the movies, time to do the things you love but never get around too and most importantly time to be on your own and reconnect with your self. As Marvin Gaye once sung about Sexual Healing... I guess he was going along the same lines!?
