Have you ever been blind folded and relied on your hearing? Notice you can hear ten times better? Imagine living without one of these elements, never knowing the pleasant fragrance of cut grass, not knowing the sound of the waves crashing upon the beach. Many people live without one of these senses. It makes me smile to think of my Grandad with his hearing aid, when we grandchildren were younger, louder and irritating he would secretly turn down his hearing aid! In a weird way it must be nice to turn off some senses. I would love to turn my ears off to some of the sounds around me. Like the sound of the main road...replace it with the sound of birds!
I am heading a little off topic, as usual!
Our senses allow us to experience life the way we choose too.

(My beautiful Nephew discovering his sense of touch!)
Life is one huge experience, unlike anyone else’s. Personally, I have been through the ups and downs, choosing to accept it and learn from it, it’s difficult to let go of the want to make things right. But what is right and wrong? We live our lives differently and as long as we enjoy them the way they are, then there should not be a problem! I gave up trying to make things right! Experiences make us the people that we are, they are our make up. Our reaction to these experiences is what defines us.
As discussed with some of the children in my class last term, two people may get pushed over in the playground, yet one may just get up and walk away and the other might make a huge deal out of it! Reactions, feelings and perceptions are unique to us. Experiences are just the trips that allow us recognise who we are.
As proved at the conferences I went to a few weeks ago, one element of the Montessori teaching philosophy encourages teachers to set out a classroom full of opportunities for the children to experience.
Our learning is based on experience.
